A Poem by Jeff Kori, About His Struggles as a VT Patient
Jeff hopes by sharing this poem, OD’s and therapists can share it with their patients who don’t always know how to express their feelings about their vision problems.
Hope Renewed
Confused, disoriented, misunderstood
Lost, jumbled, blurred,
Can’t do what you could,
Trying with all your might
Drained of mental capacity,
Your body is moving in slow motion
Using every ounce of energy,
Frustrated, tense, torn to bits
Something isn’t processing
But you can’t explain it,
Running into walls
Coordination amiss,
Doing your best not to fall
You’re so tired of all this!
There’s hope for a remedy
As you wonder what’s wrong with “me”,
Where there’s a will
There’s always a way,
Even when others say you’re ok
Few people realized,
How much your eyes play a role
In everything you do
To function normally
And achieve your goals.
You may have sight
20/20 is great,
But it’s not so perfect
When your eyes aren’t straight,
Working together as a team
Not very easily diagnosed,
Unless the right optometrist is seen
A developmental and behavioral one who knows,
Both children and adults alike
Don’t give up
It’s all about vision and sight.
Hope renewed
Brings tears of joy to you,
When you’re able to do
Everything you knew you could do.
