The presenter Dr. Thokozile Ingrid Metsing is a binocular vision lecturerand Head of the Department of Optometry at the University of Johannesburg in South Africa. Dr. Metsing has presented in South Africa and internationally on binocular vision therapy procedures and learning disorders common in children with learning problems. Her doctoral thesis is on the ‘Strategies to improve school vision screenings at primary healthcare level in South Africa” She has published numerous articles with the others still under review with the African Vision and Eye Health journal

Binocular vision therapy procedures and learning disorders common in children with learning problems -research and cases from South Africa and the effectiveness of refractive lenses in the management of non-strabismic visual anomalies.

The scope of Optometric practice in South Africa includes correction of refractive errors using lenses, prisms, contact lenses including vision therapy for children with learning disabilities, non-strabismic, and strabismic visual anomalies. Visual therapy activities and the challenges faced by the South African Optometrist will be presented.
