Steve

Instructor Bio

Dr. Steven Ingersoll created an educational model based on his years of clinical behavioral optometric practice. He created eight charter schools serving over six thousand students. The Michigan Department of Education published a four-year study proving his model produced, by wide margin, the highest percentage of student proficiency in both reading and math in the State of Michigan in each of the years tested. Dr. Ingersoll, an experienced international speaker, will discuss his belief that all students should be deemed visually competent by properly trained behavioral optometrists prior to instruction in reading, writing, and arithmetic. He will make the argument for augmenting clinical practice with direct academic instruction. Further, having experienced all aspects of the educational milieu, he will argue for expanded optometric involvement in national educational policy and practice.
