It is a condition in which timely, mechanism-based identification and diagnosis can profoundly alter a patient’s lifelong visual, perceptual, educational, and psychosocial trajectory. The modern paradigm shift from purely monocular punitive approaches to binocular thinking represents one of the most important conceptual advances in the field. By recognizing amblyopia as a disorder of interocular imbalance and suppression rather than simple monocular deprivation, clinicians are encouraged to restore balanced binocular input from the very first encounter.
