A review of the prevalence of child abuse, child neglect, and the ocular conditions that may occur in abusive situations. Provide clinical pearls to identify and manage ocular injuries. Discuss what traumas may be suspicious for abuse versus accidental occurrence. Case reports with examples of abuse and neglect will be discussed.​

Bio

Angela Howell, OD, FCOVD, FAAO

Dr. Angela Howell, O.D., FCOVD, FAAO Doctor of Optometry. Dr. Howell graduated from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, and returned to complete a Residency in Pediatrics and Vision Therapy, after practicing primary care for twenty years. She attended Freed Hardeman University and Arkansas State University prior to entering optometry school. Dr. Howell currently practices in Paragould and Jonesboro with Elite Eye Care and Optical. She works in private practice primary care, with emphasis on pediatrics and vision therapy where patients of all ages and abilities receive optometric care. She is passionate about optometric education and works as an adjunct and consulting faculty with Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Howell has co-authored a chapter on ADHD and the ocular side effects of behavioral medicines in the textbook, Visual Diagnosis and Care of the Patient with Special Needs. The primary authors being Doctors Marc Taub, Mary Bartuccio and Dominque Maino. An article was published in the Journal of Behavioral Optometry: The Ocular Effects of Behavior Management Medications.

In her free time Dr. Howell enjoys music. She has participated as a vocalist in the mostly optometrist “Power Band” at Power Practice conferences. She enjoys gardening and seeking out heirloom plants. enjoy sharing optometry with the international community. She has attended ICBO in Australia and delivered continued education lectures in Poland about pediatric optometry, vision and learning, autism and the ocular effects of behavior medications. She is happily married and enjoy family time with my husband, children and grandchildren.
