This advanced course explores the behavioral and therapeutic application of lenses and prisms as powerful tools to support and enhance vision development. Drawing on insights from the field’s greatest thinkers—including Skeffington, Getman, Kraskin, and others—participants will examine how lenses and prisms influence posture, and perception. Through case studies, hands-on exploration, and in-depth discussion, clinicians will gain a deeper understanding of prescribing strategies for a range of conditions, including strabismus, amblyopia, autism, and TBI.
Dr. Randy Schulman graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 1987, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She received both her Doctorate in Optometry and Master’s in Vision Science from the State University of New York, College of Optometry in 1991. Dr. Schulman currently serves as an Adjunct Clinical Professor and Residency Supervisor at SUNY Optometry.
She is a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) and the College of Syntonic Optometry (CSO), and is an Associate Member of both the Optometric Extension Program (OEP) and the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association (NORA).
A passionate educator and clinician, Dr. Schulman has lectured extensively on topics in behavioral optometry, including vision in the classroom, vision and aging, visual difficulties in the developmentally delayed, as well as vision in autism, Lyme disease, brain injury, pupillary constriction, functional field testing, and multisensory integration.
She specializes in integrative optometry and vision therapy with a focus on vision rehabilitation, pediatrics, learning disabilities, traumatic brain injury, concussion care, and preventative and alternative vision care across the lifespan.
Dr. Schulman is committed to lifelong learning and sharing knowledge with others. In her personal time, she enjoys reading, doing yoga and Zumba, and spending time with her partner Denny Johnson and her children Jordan, Jared, and Jessie.
