  • About the Doctor:Dr. Derek Tong graduated with Honors from the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University, where he also completed residency training in Pediatric Optometry and Vision Therapy. He has been practicing optometry since 1998 and received Fellowships from the American Academy of Optometry (AAO), the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD), and the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association (NORA). He is Board-Certified by the American Board of Optometry (ABO) and has faculty appointments as Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of both the Marshall B. Ketchum University and the Western University of Health Sciences. Dr. Tong is the Founder, Clinic Director, and Post-Doctorate Supervisor of the Center for Vision Development Optometry Inc. in Pasadena, CA. The center receives referrals from doctors, educators, child development specialists, and rehabilitation professionals. The center is known for its friendly and caring staff and focuses on helping people of all ages with learning difficulties, developmental delays, autism, lazy eyes, concussions, traumatic brain injury, and many other vision disorders. Professionally, he is a trustee and past president of the San Gabriel Valley Optometric Society. He had served as a school board member at Arcadia Christian School and has been a children’s leader at the local Bible Study Fellowship for 14 years. Since 1999, he has lectured at national optometric conferences and published numerous articles in scientific journals.

    The Center for Vision Development Optometry is committed to helping people improve their visual function so that it doesn’t interfere with their ability to read, learn or function in life. We work with children as well as adults. Whether you have learning difficulties, an eye turn, lazy eye, or are struggling with vision problems as a result of a head injury, we can help.

    We use a developmental approach to vision, paying close attention to visual conditions that affect behavior and school/work performance. Treatment modalities to enhance visual function may include Optometric Vision Therapy and carefully prescribed lenses or prisms.
